Repentance From Dead Works (29)

In this broadcast, we shall be looking at the last, of the seven churches which the Lord Jesus assessed in the Book of Revelation; and this is the church of the Laodiceans. But before this, let us quickly recap from our last broadcast, that the Lord opened the door of ministry to the church in Philadelphia because though they did not have the physical and material resources which many think are required for ministry, they nevertheless adhered to the word of God and did not put the Lords Name to disrepute by engaging in acts that are contrary to the nature of Christ. It is as we adhere to the word of Godas we make up our minds that we will please God no matter what; as we make up our minds not to play pranks or try gimmicks in the name of doing the work of Godthat we are made ready to do good works; after which the Lord will open the door of ministry unto us. If your approach to ministry is based on human ideas and methodologies that have no origin in God, you are engaged in dead works. If your ministry is not going to be dead works, then, you must adhere to every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God! Any other approach to ministry will amount to dead works, and God does not open the door of ministry unto people who are engaged in dead works. Even where thousands are gathered in a church, if that gathering, which men may applaud, is not based on the word of God, it is simply dead works! Today, as we continue our quest to recognize dead works, you should note that it is only when you come to the realization, and acknowledgement that what you are doing is dead works, that you can truly be said to be genuinely repentant before God.

Now, let us turn to todays discussion. Revelation 3:14-22; And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Lets assert from the get-go that anyone who is not doing good works will be vomited out by the Lord. When you are born again, you come into the kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ, and are given the ability or the grace to do good works. Now, whether or not you actually engage in good works is going to depend on whether or not you are totally submitted or sold out to the Lord: if you are, you will most certainly do good works; but if not, you will do dead works, and be eventually vomited out by the Lord. When a person swallows something that is detrimental to his body, his body recognizes this, and immediately uses every means available to expel the detrimental substance. Vomiting is one of the means for expelling such a detrimental substance. So, when the Lord spoke about vomiting the believers in Laodicea out of His mouth, He was implying that they were detrimental to the well-being of His Bodythe Church; and would be cast out of His kingdom, both here on earth and in eternity. If a detrimental substance in your body is not quickly expelled, it soon contaminates other functioning organs, and before long, you will become sick and may even die, depending on how lethal the detrimental substance is. The Christians in Laodicea were not only considered detrimental, but also lethal to the wellbeing of the Body of Christ; hence, they were to be expelled from His Body. What the Lord said of the Christians in Laodicea is also true of anyone who claims to be a Christian but who is living contrary to the word of God, the doctrine of Christ, and therefore, engaging in dead worksthey will also be spewed out by the Lord!

It is important to note that the Christians in Laodicea were referred to as the church of the Laodiceans. This is different from how the Lord referred to all the other six churches. In Revelation 2:1, the Lord sent a message to the church of Ephesus; in Revelation 2:8, His message was to the church in Smyrna; in Revelation 2:12, it was to the church in Pergamos; in Revelation 2:18, it was to the church in Thyatira; in Revelation 3:1, it was to the church in Sardis; in Revelation 3:8, it was to the church in Philadelphia; but in Revelation 3:14, the Lords message was to the church of the Laodiceans. What does this really mean? It means that the church in Laodicea belonged to the Laodiceans; not to the Lord! In other words, the local assembly of Christians in Laodicea was no longer the church of the Lord; it was the church of the Laodiceansit was their church; not His Church! And, to drive home the point that the church was not the Lords, we see the Lord standing outside, and knocking at the door to come in! How sad! The Church of the Laodiceans is like many churches today, which are being run as personal estates; not as the Lords church, and not as the Lord commands. These personal estates called churches tell their pastors what to tell the congregation. Their pastors dont hear from God, but follow only what the human operators say. These personal estates run as churches come up with new revelations and doctrines which are clearly contrary to Gods word, and teach same to their members. These revelations and doctrines sound good to the individual, but they never really help you grow spiritually nor increase in your knowledge of God. Can this be the church of God? Now we hear of a new gospel, which is no gospel at all, which speaks about a destiny that glorifies self, and teachings which tell you to have big dreamsa euphemism for your selfish ambitions, which have nothing to do with God! For clarification, your destiny is in God; and only God gives dreams which He also fulfills. And then, they mention the name of Jesus just to give it some authenticity. This is clearly a false gospel! Remember what the Lord said in Matthew 7:21-23; Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. The claim of these people, who will be cast off into hell will be that they did these iniquitous deeds in the name or by the authority of the Lord Jesus; but, the Lord says that He will tell them that the works they did were unauthorized. Brethren, any message that God does not authorize, even if it is preached by the most profound speaker in your generation, is not authorized, and is dead works! In Galatians 1:6-9, Paul, the apostle, writing by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, wrote, I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. Brethren, have you allowed yourself to be removed from Him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel? Beware of the messages you are listening to! Many have gone out from the citadel of Satan, and have entered the Church of God as undercover agents or spies, whose loyalty is to Satan alone. At first, they preach what seems like sound doctrine, but they soon veer off course and begin to preach messages that are not scriptural; messages that have no foundation in the bible; messages that are not in line with the bible. Jude refers to them as men who sneaked into the church hierarchy without our suspicion, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. (Jude 1:4). In 2 Peter 2:12-19, these men are described as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, [who] speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption; And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you; Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children: Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet. These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever. For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error. While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. These men are corrupt, adulterers, covetous, and so on. They lure unsuspecting members into criminal and immoral acts, like forgery, fornication, homosexuality, lesbianism, witchcraft, astrology, etc. These men claim to receive their destructive messages by revelation, and when you listen to them, what they are saying seems to make sense. The problem though, is that what God says most times, does not make sense to the flesh, but it means a lot to the spiritual man. So, if a message makes sense to your flesh, it cannot be from God! In 1 Corinthians 2:10-14, the bible says that God has revealed things to His ownthose who love Him (that is, those who obey His wordfor this is how we know those who love God: they always do His will)by His Holy Spirit. Things which the natural manthe man who is still attuned to the things of this worldcannot receive; things which only the spiritual manthose who are genuinely born again, and who delight to do the will of Godcan receive. In 1 Corinthians 1:18, the bible says, the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. My beloved brothers and sisters, the message of God to our generation, and indeed, to every generation, is the importance and significance of the suffering, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesuswhat is called the message of the cross. It is the message about how Jesus suffered and died to pay the price for sin, so that men need not die and face the judgment of God against sinners. This is the message which Paul the apostle said he was not ashamed of. It seems a foolish message to anyone who is trying to make sense of it; but it is salvation to all those who are receptive to it as God gives them grace to receive it. It is the message that saves a man from the judgment of God which is to come upon all who are disobedient and rebellious to God. So, trying to preach a gospel that appeals and makes sense to the flesh does not bring about the salvation of Christ. Such feel good messages only produce people who dont care anything about the suffering and death of Christ, but who want to get their hands on all they possibly can here on earth. Such feel good messages only produce people who want everything here on earth, and still want to enter into heaven without having to live for God. Are you one of such? Please note that if a message does not line up with the word of God, it is not from God, even if it came from an angel! Beloved, any church where a feel good message is preached is really a cult, not a church! And cults have no place in the Body of Christ! Beware! Lest you be spewed out by the Lord! Repent before it is too late, because the Lord of the Church is about to visit His habitation. When Jesus comes how will He meet youwelcoming or unwelcoming? Doing dead works or doing good works? The choice is yours.

Let us pray!
